SALAD BOWLS: Information, Care and Maintenance

Salad Bowls

These laminated salad bowls are made from selected lumber, 7-10 inches wide.  The boards are cut into rings, assembled into bowl blanks, and turned on the lathe. They are sealed with a food-safe finish and polished with beeswax.  The servers are bent-laminations, two thin strips glued in a two-part press.  These durable yet elegant salad bowls serve equally well as fruit or bread bowls; they also make wonderful wedding gifts.

If you follow these simple instructions, your bowl will give you years of enjoyment; in fact, with use and occasional polishing, it will just look better with age. After use it should be wiped with a damp cloth, or if desired, quickly rinsed with detergent and warm water.  Never leave water in the bowl; tip the bowl upside down to let the water drain, or dry it with a cloth or paper towel.  Do not put it in the microwave or dishwasher! Beeswax polish can be applied when the wood begins to look dry; it protects and gives a soft sheen.

Salad bowls come in various sizes, from 14-20 inch diameters, in both Domestic woods such as Birch, Maple, Oak, Ash, Walnut and Cherry as well as exotics like Mahogany and Zebrawood.  A striking mixed design, incorporating exotics, domestics and various recycled off-cuts is also available. Each bowl comes with a set of matching servers, small or large, and a jar of beeswax salad bowl polish.  Matching small bowls can be ordered. Enjoy your salad!

Prices

Prices vary according to the size and the type of wood.  Generally the prices range from $195.00, $260.00, $325.00 and $385.00 for the 14, 16, 18, and 20 inch sizes respectively.  The mixed ones are a little more, as are some of the exotics.  Servers and beeswax are included with each bowl. Zebrawood, Lacewood and Yellowheart can be harder to find sometimes in the right size and quality, and prices fluctuate.  I constantly look for attractive yet reasonably priced woods and update my selection frequently.  Please feel free to contact me.
